CALL FOR SUPPORT AND VOLUNTEERS FOR CHILDREN ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN.
The tuesday of two weeks ago would not be the first time children from State high school, Ibereko-Badagry, or other schools in the area would be run over by a high speed vehicle, as they tried to cross the road to get to school. We believe, at IRead Literacy however, that this should not be the case.
It is common knowledge public schools have the highest attendees, in Nigeria, and most parts of the world. There are about 5 public schools in badagry where children can only have access to
school by crossing the perilous Badagry/seme highway. There are more if we include the schools in Seme. There are very few road signs and almost none in strategic points to remind hurrying commuters to slow down.
To this effect, we are appealing to concerned people to support us as we dedicate some days to making very physical, visual road and traffic signs on the highway especially for L.A primary school, Ibereko, State high school Ibereko, Government college Ajara, Javy College, and Sito Gbethrome junior school.
This is a call to visual artists and people to kindly support by donating time and presence, paint and brushes, cement and concrete for speed bumps, or and/or funding to help actualize this.
This is a community development effort, we hope to use this opportunity to have talks with parents, transporters and teachers in the area.
We hope to close the project with a soccer match in honor of the children and people who have passed over the years in this condition, and with hopes that after our intervention, it will not happen again.
If you are interested in this being a part of this project, please phone +2347019098399 or email ireadafrica@gmail.com
